Alejandra Adán
Board Member
Alejandra Adán has been an MIS parent since 2018, when her boys Joaquín and Julián began their Magellan journeys in PP3 and Kindergarten. As a former educator and native Spanish speaker, Alejandra was excited to find Magellan because it brought together the IB, language immersion, and a diverse community of families and staff. After working for the International Baccalaureate Organization in New York City, Alejandra was a founding member of two IB World Schools in Harlem and Manhattan, held administrative roles at IB World Schools in Brooklyn and Round Rock, and worked for Texas IB Schools (TIBS) when her family moved to Austin from NYC.
Following two years as MISPA secretary, Alejandra joins the Board with over 15 years of experience in biliterate communications, program/project management, community engagement, and social impact advocacy. She has held roles in a variety of nonprofit and start-up settings, including K-12 school communities, affordable housing, mental health, and higher education. Alejandra joined Via Hope in August 2023 and currently serves as Recovery Institute Manager, where she oversees operations and program planning for the Institute’s organizational change initiatives and partnership opportunities. Prior to joining Via Hope, Alejandra served as a Senior Community Outreach Manager, working on comprehensive stakeholder engagement and public involvement programs.
Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Alejandra is committed to engaging with multicultural communities and developing cultures of inclusion. She holds a B.A. from the Uuniversity of Texas at Austin, an M.S. Ed from Bank Street College of Education, and a DE&I in the Workplace certificate from the University of South Florida, Muma College of Business. Alejandra is a volunteer translator and interpreter at VECINA and serves on its Board of Directors; she is also a Leadership Austin Essential Class of 2023 graduate. Beyond work, Alejandra loves to read, attend Zumba and boxing classes, and spend time with her husband, two sons, her dog Bonita, and good friends.
