A Leader for Magellan's Next Chapter

Since its founding in 2009, Magellan International School has grown from 47 Pre-K and Kindergarten students to a thriving community of 600, including our inaugural 9th-grade class in fall 2024. In just 15 years, Magellan has become a cornerstone of the Austin community, known for its unique blend of Spanish immersion and the renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum in a secular, diverse, and independent school setting.

As we enter this exciting next chapter, we’re launching a global search for our next Head of School — a visionary leader who will foster our human-centered community and guide Magellan’s mission of developing globally minded, compassionate, and curious learners.

Our Leadership and the Path Ahead

Magellan International School’s growth and success have been guided by the visionary leadership of just two exceptional Heads of School. Founding Head Marisa León (2009–2018) laid the foundation for our mission, shaping the values that continue to define our community today. Scott Hibbard, who has served since 2018, has led Magellan through a period of incredible expansion and innovation, and will complete his tenure in Spring 2026.

As we look to the future, Magellan is conducting a global search for our next Head of School — a leader who will guide us through an exciting and pivotal chapter. This includes our upcoming accreditation to offer the prestigious IB Diploma Programme and the ultimate milestone of graduating our first senior class in 2028.

Through conversations with our community — including parents, faculty, and staff — a clear vision is emerging for the qualities we seek in our new leader. Words like fair, collaborative, compassionate, and forward-thinking reflect the hopes and expectations of our community as we prepare for this next chapter.
